Why did my scan come out sideways?
A PDF page carries a rotation attribute — 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees — telling readers how to display content written in a different orientation. Scanners set it based on how the paper went through the feeder and frequently get it wrong, especially with mixed-orientation batches. Rotating here corrects that attribute so every reader agrees.
Does rotation accumulate on pages that are already rotated?
Yes. The rotation you choose is added to whatever the page already had, so a page at 90 degrees rotated another 90 ends up at 180. This matters in mixed documents: rotating everything by 90 will turn the already-correct pages sideways. Use the 'selected pages' option to fix only the pages that are wrong.
Does rotating a PDF lose quality?
No. Rotation changes a page attribute rather than re-rendering anything. Text stays selectable, vector artwork stays sharp and images keep their exact original resolution. The output file is essentially the same size as the input.
Can I straighten a page that is crooked by a few degrees?
Not with this tool. Rotation handles right angles only. A scan skewed by three degrees needs deskewing, which is a genuinely different operation — it has to re-render the page at an angle and then crop or fill the triangular gaps at the corners. No amount of 90-degree rotation will straighten it.
Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs inside your browser using your own device's processor, so your documents never travel over the network. That matters for contracts, statements, medical records and tax filings — the documents people most often need to edit are exactly the ones you should not hand to an unfamiliar server. There is no upload wait, no size cap, and nothing for us to store or leak.

Why a scanned page comes out sideways

Scanners set it based on how the paper went through the feeder, and they frequently get it wrong, particularly with mixed-orientation batches or a page fed in upside down.
Rotating here changes that attribute, which is exactly the right fix. The page content is not re-rendered or re-encoded, so nothing is lost — the file simply stops claiming the wrong orientation.
Rotation accumulates
The rotation you choose is added to whatever the page already had. A page that arrives at 90° and gets another 90° ends up at 180°. This matters when a document has mixed orientations: rotating everything by 90° turns the already-correct pages sideways.
That is what the “selected pages” option is for. Rotate just the pages that are wrong and leave the rest alone — a common pattern in scanned bundles where the landscape tables came out rotated but the portrait pages did not.
Clockwise, and the 270 question
All rotations here are clockwise. 90° turns the top of the page to the right; 270° is the same as 90° anticlockwise, which is what you want for a page that reads bottom-to-top. 180° flips it end over end, which is the fix for a page fed into a scanner upside down.

Nothing is uploaded

The documents people most often need to edit — contracts, bank statements, medical records, tax packages — are exactly the ones you should not hand to an unfamiliar server. There is no upload wait, no size ceiling imposed by a free tier, and nothing left in a temporary directory afterwards. Disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
